Once again, TMZ has fabricated a non-story about Michael Jackson comprised of half-truths and assumptions spun and molded into something completely unrepresentative of reality.
While we think it’s important to know what the actual content of the post is, we don’t want to encourage you to visit the TMZ website (remember, every click you make means increased ad revenue for them!), so we’ve reproduced the article here—including a screen capture:
MJ Pushed Dr. To Improperly Give Son Anesthesia
1/13/2011 1:00 AM PST by TMZ StaffTMZ has learned … Michael Jackson subjected one of his children to the same risky medical treatment that eventually killed him.
Sources tell TMZ … Michael cajoled a Las Vegas dentist into performing a procedure on Blanket in July, 2008, that involved putting the boy under anesthesia for 2 hours in a dental office that did not have the necessary permit for anesthesia.
TMZ has obtained internal documents from the Nevada Board of Dental Examiners, which detail Michael Jackson’s interactions with Dr. Mark Tadrissi. According to the documents, Tadrissi told Michael he couldn’t perform the procedure on Blanket because he lacked the permit.
According to the Board’s investigator, Michael didn’t want to hear about permits and told the doctor, “Have an anesthesiologist do whatever type of sedation required.”
Tadrissi capitulated and performed the 2 hour procedure on Blanket … who was 6 years old at the time. An anesthesiologist had Blanket sedated the entire time.
Now here’s where it gets mysterious. The Board — which learned of Tadrissi’s actions after Michael died — initiated a disciplinary action against Tadrissi for allowing Blanket to be anesthetized in his office. The Board also went after Dr. Tadrissi for allowing Michael to receive Propofol in his office, without the proper permit.
Dr. Tadrissi struck a deal with the Board in 2010 in which he was sanctioned. In a draft of the report, the Board based the sanctions on his treatment of both Blanket and Michael. But in the final version of the report Blanket was taken completely out — there is no mention of the boy or his treatment.
One source connected with the investigation tells TMZ … pressure was put on the Board to omit Blanket from the report, and when the final version was issued, the discipline was based solely on Michael’s treatment.
What is this article really telling us? Well, let’s look at the crux of the story as if we’re talking about any parent and child, not Michael Jackson and his son…
TRUTH:
• A 6-year-old boy needed a 2-hour dental procedure performed on him that required anesthesia.
• The dentist lacked a permit to perform procedures under anesthesia.
• The boy’s father asked the dentist to hire an anesthesiologist (i.e., a doctor licensed to administer anesthesia) to do the sedation.
• The dentist agreed to hire a licensed anesthesiologist, and who then did the sedation on the 6-year-old boy.
In other words, the father acted like any parent with a young child in need of a lengthy dental procedure. Receiving anesthesia for dental care is NOT unusual, even in young children. It is completely normal to want your child to be anesthetized during a 2-hour long procedure, which—if personal experience with dental work is any indication—is likely to be painful. Furthermore, the use of Propofol in dental surgery is extremely common.

When a child (or a person of any age with a disability) needs extensive dental treatment, general anesthesia is an accepted standard of care. This standard is supported by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the American Medical Association, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The reason a complaint was filed against the dentist wasn’t because of anything the father did wrong—it’s because the dentist didn’t have the right permit to allow the licensed anesthesiologist to administer the anesthetic in his office. Think back to the last time you (or your child) received anesthesia at the dentist: Did you check up on all the intricacies of the dentist’s permits regarding the use of an anesthesiologist in his or her office? I’m guessing you didn’t.
SPIN:
What does TMZ want you to take away from their sensationalized report? Well, that’s simple: They want you (and everyone else who reads their article…and everyone who reads every other article based on their article…and so on) to believe that Michael Jackson was such a horrible father and such a delusional junkie that he forced a doctor to put his son to sleep with the very same drug that wound up killing his dad. And if Michael Jackson is that irresponsible and horrible, how can we believe that he didn’t force another doctor to give him an overdose in June 2009? And really, how can we believe that Michael Jackson just didn’t kill himself, since he obviously didn’t care about his kids?
That’s the subtext! That’s what TMZ and the rest of the tabloid media want you to believe. Why? Because it’s “shocking”, it’s scandalous, it involves a very famous person with a lot of public interest, and, above all, because it will get lots of people—including Michael Jackson fans—to click on their site, leave comments, send the link to other people, and ultimately increase TMZ’s value to advertisers.
The media makes a lot of money off of stories about Michael Jackson. It doesn’t matter whether the story is negative or positive, fact or fiction; the public still eats it up. We saw it in 1982, we saw it in 1987, 1993, 2003, 2005, 2009…and on and on and on. As long as the interest is there, the media will provide a story, even if they have to invent it.
We’re in the midst of a period of time between the preliminary hearings and the trial of the doctor accused of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson. It’s a slow time, news-wise. You’re going to see a lot of trash and nonsense and noise coming out so the media can continue filling their pockets while they wait for the trial to start. Be aware.
The best way to take action against tabloid sites like TMZ is with INACTION.
• Don’t click on any links to their website.
• Don’t share any links to their website.
• Don’t comment on any articles on their website.
• If you follow their posts with an RSS reader (like Google Reader), delete the feed.
• If you’ve liked their page on Facebook, unlike it.
• If you follow them on Twitter, unfollow them.
Every click, every link, and every follower makes TMZ a more valuable company in the eyes of advertisers, and that’s where the money lies. Exercise your voice of opposition be refusing to give TMZ a single additional click.

It’s interesting, where I live we are reeling from a horrific act of violence. We were able to listen to a speech encouraging us to refrain from doing harm with our speech. Reference has been made over and over again regarding the divisiveness of politics and language. Yet, exactly this, tabloid rhetoric laced with speculation, hate, inciting to do harm, etc., has been going on for far too long. We all need to say enough and stop reading this crap. Stop feeding the monster!

My 5 yr old had to have a long dental procedure. His current dentist did not have the correct license. I was referred to a dentist that was that had a anesthesiologist come to their office. I was not comfortable with that I found a dentist that does dental work at a children’s hospital. From what they told me that it is a very common everyday thing with children with no problems.

In Spain is very common practice surgical interventions such as extraction of wisdom teeth, under anesthesia. For this procedure requires the presence of an anesthetist and a dental surgeon, at any age, in adults or children. i don´t know if it`s a common practice in others countries as EEUU; but I think it`s logic to do so, because it´s very painful and the surgeon need to be sure that the patient is going to be quiet and calm. What is the problem???? i don´t understand how tabloid and general media can twist everything about medicine when is MJ`s name involved with, but in my country we have a proverb: “about medicine and football everyone is an expert”!!

Poor Michael has been a victim during his lifetime and even now after his death, they still do not pay him the respect he earns.

meigadas, it’s very common (it’s the norm!) in the US as well. Michael did absolutely nothing out of the ordinary here. This was a 2-hour dental procedure!
The irony, of course, if that if he’d insisted on not having anesthesia for his child, the tabloids would be calling him neglectful!

TMZ needs to go away and Harvey Levin, an attorney, needs to be sanctioned by the California State Bar. He’s a disgrace. My grandson just had four impacted wisdom teeth removed under general anesthesia; it took four hours for the procedure to be done; it’s routinely done; but justification for the procedure is NOT the issue here; the issue is TMZ and its constant misreporting concerning Michael and the entire Jackson family. YES, BOYCOTT TMZ FOREVER!!!!

Was never a fan of TMZ (or for that matter any type of tabloid-type show, tabloid newspaper or magazine) and will never be a fan of TMZ. Their trash only creates hatred and in the end, someone gets hurt. It is so unfair to the person about whom they are reporting to put all these lies out there. However, as pointed out above, don’t bother to take the time to comment on what they have said about Michael and Blanket no matter how angry the comments might make you. It is not worth it. That is what they are looking for. This gives them a “rush”. But we can boycott them. That hits in the pocket.

thank-you for exposing the most current filthy lie TMZ (Trash Media Zone) is spreading about Michael Jackson, and the TRUTH : that Michael told the dentist to get a registered anesthesiologist in to administer the anesthetic that was necessary for the extremely painful 2 hour dental surgery his young son needed. Thankyou for letting us know Michael did NOT “push” the dentist to administer the anesthetic, but rather pushed him to get the proper personnel in to administer it -and therefore the proper personnel WAS brought in. Thankyou for letting us know it is standard medical procedure to anesthetize young children when they have to undergo a lengthy, painful procedure much the same as many of us were anesthetized when we were 6 years old having our tonsils removed. Michael did nothing wrong and infact acted as any parent would have under the circumstances. When will the general public wake up to the fact that TMZ just flat-out makes stuff up that never happened, and put them out of business?

Michael was persecuted, abused and exploited by almost everyone during his entire life. Since early childhood. The media and many wealthy powerful corporations(like $ony) have way too much power and influence over peoples thoughts and minds. It’s pure manipulation and nothing more. Michael warned us repeatedly NOT to listen to them or believe their lies, to shut them off…The tv, the magazines, tabloids, newspapers even the internet nowadays. They’re ALL the same! They haven’t had any truly positive or truthful stories about MJ in almost 3 decades! That’s a very long time of relentless media brainwashing and lies about one person. The 2000′s have been especially bad in that way. Once again I must say, whatever you do stop listening to the media/MJ enemies/other negative or hypocritical individuals…And for once listen to Michael HIMSELF only and tell others to do the same. Not everyone is “ready” to hear his messages or to properly understand them of course(some will never be, that’s how bad the situaion is.But the more intelligent and intuitive you are the more you WILL get it) but we must keep telling them the truth over and over and over again just like the media and the establishment have told their lies and manipulations over and over and over again! That’s the only way we’ll ever have any change in this world.Repetition is the key,that’s how it’s done most effectively.That’s how the human brain works.People MUST realise the effect the media is having on them first before they can start to heal from that toxic effect.You have to do it yourself, no one else can do it for anyone else. I’ve never been interested in TMZ or really understood the fascination others(especially MJ supporters who should know better!)seem to have over it and other similar tabloid bullshit sites like that! I mean, surely everyone already KNOWS that most things that comes out of sites like that is pure and utter slanderous carbage! It’s just so obvious. WHO in their right mind seriously listens to TMZ or believes in them?They HATE and disrespect Michael and use his name all the time for profit and slander!Who wants to support THAT.I honestly can’t believe people are THAT stupid.
TMZ also has a connection to $ony so that makes them even more repulsive to me.
In my opinion it’s the general media that’s the REAL problem and issue here, the so called “serious” and “respected” media sources that tell stories that are biased, twisted and even made up entirely!They do this to Michael ALL the time.They undermine him/his influence in every way and write/make biased stories against him. People think they can trust these media people but you have to look at whats behind them to understand who’s side they are actually on. And that is most definitely not our OR Michael’s side.
Oprah is a great example. Everyone already knows she is only a lying hypocrite and a psychotic woman who hates Michael with extreme jealousy.And yet some people still watch her shows or think she has something valuable to say about MJ. Thank you for writing this. You make a lot of sense. & It IS standard practice to put ANYONE under anesthesia for a lengthy & dental practice, especially a small scared child. & For the record, I got braces when I was 14 & had to have 4 teeth pulled because of it & I was put under w/ novocaine. My mom even sat w/ me in the room as I was being put under (becoming loopy as a loon & cracking jokes on top of it while she was scared out of her wits wanting the procedure to be over.) She probably did not ask my dentist whether or not his clinic had the proper license, but also, knowing her I would be surprised if she did. (My mother has always been OVERLY thorough about every little thing.) I’m only sorry that Michael didn’t find another dentist that had EVERYTHING in check. This is just 1 more slight that people are going to use against him & it’s not fair.

PS: What I also loved about my dentist office was the COLORFUL way in which it was decorated. In 1 of his examination rooms, my dentist had these HUGE copies famous albums & their covers on the wall… there was Madonna’s True Blue, The Police’s Synchronicity, & of course… Michael Jackson’s Thriller. During every visit I would try my DAMNEDEST to call dibs on the chair next to Michael (hoping & praying that some other kid wasn’t sitting in it). Every time I sat in the chair, it felt like he was watching over me. I really LOVED going to the dentist back then! LOL!
